Support Grows to Mark England's National Day as a Public Holiday

StGeorgesDay.com and MP Andrew Rosindell have joined forces by tabling an Early Day Motion in Parliament which could at last see England's national day, St. George's Day, being given the recognition it deserves and become either a public holiday or a bank

With so many other countries around the world setting aside a special day to celebrate their patron saint, England's day has sadly not enjoyed the same recognition. Whilst the Scot's celebrate Burn's night and the Irish enjoy their public holiday on St. Patrick's Day, it seems the English have suffered a raw deal. However, all of this looks set to change thanks to the tireless campaigning and lobbying of StGeorgesDay.com. For several years this organisation has been spearheading a campaign to ensure that England secures it's right to celebrate their own special day.

Andrew Rosindell MP and StGeorgesDay.com are not alone in believing that the day of England's patron saint is a great opportunity for all the people of England to celebrate their country's heritage, culture and traditions. There has now been well over 750,000 people signing the StGeorgesDay.com online petition, urging Her Majesty's Government to establish St. George's Day as a public holiday in Britain.

Last year, the MP tabled a Private Members Bill seeking legislation ensuring that everyone in England is given an annual day off on April 23rd. Although it was not given enough parliamentary time to become law, the Bill received enormous support from members of all political parties and from people across the country.

This year, in conjunction with StGeorgesDay.com, Andrew Rosindell MP will be hosting a St. George's Day rally in the Grand Committee Room of the House of Commons. This will be a strictly non-political event and will be attended by elected Members of Parliament from across the political spectrum.

StGeorgesDay.com has become the place for proud English men and women to enjoy more of that English feeling. With its recently updated and more user friendly website, the organisation now attracts more interest and support than ever before. The site carries news and information on St. George's Day events and parades taking place throughout the country. For those proud to wear the famous Red Cross of England, the site now offers perhaps the largest range of 'England' merchandise available anywhere. Rugby shorts, T-shirts, caps, cuff links, flags, umbrellas and car stickers can all be purchased online.

With their ever-increasing campaigning efforts generating greater support each day, it should not be long before StGeorgesDay.com and the people of England finally recognise their own National Day and give it the status and respect it so rightly deserves.
