Grantham Events Group

Sunday April 27th

This spring the Grantham Events Group is encouraging the town to indulge in a bit of patriotic fervour. Sunday April 27th sees the first St George’s Day event on St. Peter’s Hill to run parallel with the civic celebrations that are organised every year by the Scouts and Guides. There will of course be St. George himself, along with the poor old dragon as a centrepiece but mingled in with the truly English theme, we’ll have Morris and clog dancers performing alongside a jazz band and Grantham Town Band who’ll supply the all-important Pomp and Circumstance, Rule Britannia and other much-loved national musical favourites.

The group is planning to stage as many truly English attractions as possible and to bring the English spirit of Grantham to life. If there are any businesses out there who feel this would be a good showcase for them, or, at its most basic level, would like to put a sense of pride back into their community, the group would like to hear from them with offers of help. Catlin’s, the home of Gingerbread have agreed to supply Gingerbread Men, emblazoned with the cross of St. George. Munch on St Peter’s Hill will be cooking up Bangers and Mash and other English type grub, whilst Wetherspoons will be getting in some good old English guest ales to keep us in the mood.

The nearest car park to the event is the new Welham Street multi-story – this will be free of charge (as per every Sunday) for all those wanting to come down and enjoy the day.

This is a pilot event, which we hope to grow year by year. Any Grantham business that feels that this is an event they can get behind contact Richard Coppin, Chairman, by e-mail at andrich@ntlworld.com
