ENGLAND CELEBRATES ST GEORGE – EVENTS IN LONDON - FREE
Dinners, lunches and parties will celebrate St George’s Day, England’s National Day on Wednesday 23rd April this year.
On Saturday 19th April, the Saturday nearest St George’s Day, the annual parade and festival will take place in London, organised by The Royal Society of St George with the support of the Greater London Authority and the City of Westminster.
From 10.30am members of the Society, together with over five-hundred young people, all cadets from London’s Sea Cadets, the Army Cadet Force and the Air Training Corps, along with Standard Bearers from some of the Capital’s ex-Service Associations, will form up in Whitehall and parade to the Cenotaph. There a wreath laying and a short service will take place to commemorate English Men and Women over the centuries who have laid down their lives in the service of England and the Commonwealth. This is followed by the laying of a wreath at the Tomb of the Unknown Warrior in Westminster Abbey.
At the same time the annual English Festival will take place alongside Covent Garden with typically English performing arts, including bands, mummers and Punch and Judy.
Everyone is invited to join in these free events and help celebrate England and St George.
