Birmingham City Council Celebrates
Birmingham St George's Day Association in co-operation with Birmingham City Council.
It's time to celebrate England.
Come and be part of the best St George's celebrations in the country right here in Birmingham.
This celebration of England is presented by the Birmingham St George's Day Association in
co-operation with Birmingham City Council events team.
Enjoy this family friendly day out and best of all, it's FREE.
It takes place in Victoria and Chamberlain squares on Saturday April 25th from 11-5pm.
Over 10,000 people attended last years event and this year will be even bigger and better.
Victoria square.
Presenting the event will be BBC Radio WM favourites Phil Upton and Joanne Malin.
City of Birmingham Brass Band. Brass bands have a long established tradition in English culture and we open the festival with this very popular local band.
Deluka. This young Birmingham indie band are set for great things having appeared at the "Clothes Show Live" and having a very popular track "Sleep is impossible" on the computer game "Grand Theft Auto 1V"
Central England Ensemble. A very fine orchestra who will be playing Dvorak's 9th Symphony.Dvorak had a long connection with Birmingham, conducting two world premiers
of his work at Birmingham town hall.
The Fabbeatles. This superb Beatles tribute band have played for Michael Parkinson
and at last years Birmingham St George's celebrations we found out why as they rocked
the crowd..
Kerfuffle. A young English folk band from the Derby area who play with a dynamic style and
are making waves on the music circuit having been finalists in BBC 2 young folk musicians
of the year 2004.
There will also be children's entertainment which includes a smoke breathing dragon slide.
Traditional English hot & cold food will be available to buy on the day including a pig roast,
real ale and ciders.Soft drinks,tea and coffee will also be on sale.
English market stalls. These will be sited on the corner of New Street and Victoria Square
selling local produce e.g Cheese,ciders etc.
Chamberlain Square.
Newcastle Kingsmen. See these English sword dancers perform their intricate dances.
Earldon Morrismen. Perform North West clog dances with a dynamic style.
Jockey Morrismen. The ever popular crowd pleasers from Birmingham.
Fiddlesticks. This ladies dance troupe are from the Norwich area and perform Garland and clog dances.
Glorishears of Brummagem. Local ladies morris dancing troupe.
The Knights of middle England. See two Knights do battle in Chamberlain Square
The Birmingham St George's Day Association hope to have the appearance of an act
on stage from one of the Birmingham Schools who have taken part in our joint venture
with Birmingham Education department in giving children the opportunity to be aware of
English culture.We were all overwhelmed by the response from the children and we will
gladly give them the chance to show their talent.
